How to Choose Heat: Pedal to the Metal Upgrades

Choose Heat: Pedal to the Metal accessories around the part of your race setup you want to improve: gear shifting, reading the circuit, or recording a championship. This guide covers physical components, not the upgrade cards used in the Garage module.

A quick way to choose

Complete or Legends gearboxes?

The current standalone gearbox pack has two component selections. Complete includes 9 gearboxes and 9 gear levers. Legends includes 12 gearboxes, 12 levers and 3 additional cars in pink, brown and teal. Each selection offers Standard and Magnetic versions.

Choose according to the colours and pieces you use. Complete covers the nine player colours listed for the base game and expansions, including the white Rocky Roads car. The Legends selection adds the three extra colours. Having 12 gearboxes does not change the game's official player count or supply expansion cards.

What changes with Magnetic?

Magnetic versions use magnetic gearboxes and matching magnetic gear levers for a more tactile gear change. Standard versions do not include that feature. In the All-in Collection, the magnetic option applies to the gearboxes and levers, not every component. The additional Legends cars are not described as magnetic.

If remembering the selected gear is your main concern, a gearbox pack is a focused upgrade. If you are happy with your existing gear marker, you can choose track or championship accessories separately.

What does the All-in Collection contain?

Both Standard and Magnetic contain 162 pieces:

  • 30 speed markers and 10 garages.
  • 10 tunnels, 40 stacked tyres and 40 flooding barrels.
  • 12 gearboxes, 12 gear levers and 3 additional Legends cars.
  • 1 finish line, 2 photographers and 2 last-player adrenaline indicators.

The All-in Collection supports the base game and the listed content from Heavy Rain, Tunnel Vision, Rocky Roads and Legends. Use the components that correspond to the content you own; the accessories do not supply those game boxes or their rules.

Already own some upgrades?

Check your existing pieces before choosing All-in. Its gearboxes, speed markers and road pieces overlap with the standalone packs. A separate Road Condition Set contains 90 pieces: 40 flooding barrels, 40 stacked tyres and 10 tunnels, which are already present in All-in.

The Rocky Roads & Legends listing offers targeted additions for an existing upgraded setup. Its Rocky Roads option lists a gearbox, a white gear stick, 40 barrels and 40 stacked tyres; its Legends option lists three gearboxes, three sticks and three cars. Compare the actual contents, not just the expansion name.

Is the championship podium included in All-in?

No. The separate Championship Set offers Only Podium, Only chips and Complete Grand Prix. The complete option combines the podium with tyre-shaped scoring chips in values 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20. It is intended for displaying results and tracking points between races, without changing the championship rules.

Questions behind this guide

A BoardGameGeek discussion about a 3D-printed gearbox describes players knocking their gear markers and asks how the accessory attaches. A separate Reddit discussion asks which Heat component upgrades are worth buying. These are examples of player questions, not tests of DeluxyGames products.
